Morfydd Street · since the 1950s · family-owned since 2024

A Morriston dental practice, run by a Morriston dentist.

Dr Jack Hawkins grew up four streets from this building. He went to Parklands and Olchfa, qualified at Manchester in 2022, and bought the practice with his father in January 2024. Same surgery, on the same street, since the 1950s. New chair, same chair, depending on which way you look at it.

Our story

Seventy years on Morfydd Street, with new owners since January.

The building at 46 Morfydd Street has served as a dental surgery, in one configuration or another, since the 1950s. For a long stretch of that it was The Family Practice, run by N Young and D Davies. In January 2024 it changed hands.

The new owners are Dr Jack Hawkins and his father Gareth. Jack was born in Swansea, schooled at Parklands Primary and Olchfa Comprehensive, then qualified at Manchester University Dental School in 2022. He worked NHS and private practices in Caerphilly, Newport, Llandeilo and Swansea, then bought the practice he had walked past as a boy.

The handover kept every member of staff. The two upper-floor surgeries were gutted and rebuilt with new chairs, new imaging and modern infection-control over spring 2024. The ground floor and the waiting area followed through 2025. The NHS children\'s contract was preserved. The plan for adult patients moved to DPAS, the Denplan equivalent, from 52p a day.

We are thrilled to have completed this transaction. They provided a fast, efficient service. Dr Jack Hawkins on the buyout, quoted by Peter Lynn & Partners, July 2024
  1. 1950s The Morfydd Street building first becomes a dental practice. It has been a dental surgery on this site, in some form, ever since.
  2. 2022 Jack Hawkins graduates from Manchester University Dental School. He moves back to South Wales to begin NHS and private work in Caerphilly, Newport, Llandeilo and Swansea.
  3. Jan 2024 Jack and his father Gareth buy the practice (then trading as The Family Practice) in a six-figure deal handled by Peter Lynn & Partners. The Hawkins Practice Limited is incorporated at Companies House on 15 January.
  4. Spring 2024 Two upper-floor surgeries gutted and rebuilt with new imaging, new chairs and modern infection-control. All existing staff retained through the handover.
  5. Aug 2024 Healthcare Inspectorate Wales registration completed under the Hawkins ownership.
  6. 2025 Ground-floor surgery, waiting area and decoration refit. Open days for Invisalign and implants begin.
  7. Today NHS children's contract preserved. DPAS plan for adults. Same Morriston practice, in some senses, that the building has hosted for seventy years.

Specialism

Implants and Invisalign, planned in the same surgery as your check-up.

The upper-floor surgery was renovated in spring 2024 around overhead imaging — the OPG/ceph arm above the chair lets us plan implant cases and Invisalign sequences in the same visit as the consultation, rather than referring the imaging out to a separate appointment elsewhere in Swansea. For a Morriston patient with one Saturday morning to spare, that matters.

We are a small clinical team by design — one principal, one therapist, one hygienist, three nurses, one receptionist. The patient who comes back in six months sees the same face on the door, the same name at the chair. That continuity is the part of family practice that the corporates cannot match, and it is the reason we have kept the lineup small after the 2024 changeover.

Frequently asked

Five questions Tracy answers every week.

Are you accepting new NHS patients?

For children, yes — we hold an NHS contract for children under 18, or up to 19 in full-time education. Routing is easiest when a parent or grandparent is already a registered Hawkins patient. For adults, we cannot accept new NHS patients directly. Adults can join our DPAS plan from 52p a day, or attend privately on a per-treatment basis.

What does the dental plan actually cover?

The DPAS plan covers your routine examinations, your hygienist appointments and basic dentistry across the year, under one fixed monthly Direct Debit. Worldwide dental emergency assistance is included. There is a £10 per person registration fee to join, and one month cancellation notice. Larger treatments like implants, Invisalign, whitening or crowns are quoted separately at plan-member rates.

Can I have implants or Invisalign done in-house?

Yes — Jack delivers both on-site. The upper-floor surgery was renovated in 2024 with overhead imaging so implant planning can be done in the same visit as the consultation. Invisalign is straightforward at the practice; the open days we run every few months are the easiest way to get an indicative quote without committing to a full appointment.

Where exactly are you and where do I park?

We are at 46 Morfydd Street, Morriston, SA6 8BU — a two-minute walk from Morriston Hospital. There is on-street parking on Morfydd Street and the adjoining roads. Buses from Swansea city centre to Morriston Cross stop a short walk away.

How do I reach you outside opening hours?

During the working week we are on 01792 774000, Mon to Thu 9 to 5 and Fri 9 to 4. Out of hours, our plan members have worldwide emergency dental assistance bundled in their plan. Non-plan patients should contact NHS 111 Wales for urgent dental advice.
